While you are out shopping and having fun if you see any marketing tactics or ads that catch your eye feel free to share with us.
This particular ad that was created by SEGA was able to cause quite a buzz for them. One of the reason it was one of their successful and buzz causing marketing campaigns is because the ad is seen by many as taboo. Something that is not easily accepted by our culture. However, if you look at it closely and read the context of the ad there is nothing wrong with it. The ad says exactly what SEGA joystick could do for the gamers. The ad itself no doubt is controversial and can cause people to frown about it and I am sure some of you are frowning and thinking “what the hell,” right now. But that is what “Buzz Marketing” is all about. Read the rest of this entry
Here is an old ad from SEGA that caused quite a buzz back in the day. We will write more about this on our next post. We would like to hear your thoughts and reaction to this ad first. Please comment and share with us what do you think is wrong or right with this ad. Is it something that offends you? Share with us and we will write our views and thoughts on the next post.
Each day from the time we wake up till the time we “hit the sack” we are exposed to thousands of ads. Most of them we simply ignore cause we are used to them. We get out of bed, grab a cup of coffee and read a newspaper, there it is hundreds of ads throwing their messages at us. We turn on the TV and watch our favorite show and there it is again – commercials that make us get up and do something else. Advertisements in general are hated by the masses. A marketers worst dream is their messages being ignored and this happens quite often.
The thing that makes people ignore your marketing messages and ads are the fact that they don’t have personality. Usually ads are plain and do not really catch potential customers eye or attention. Colors, message and the way an ad is presented has a lot to do when it comes to marketing effectively. When creating an ad don’t think of it as a marketing message but an art. Try to be different, think outside the box. Create a message, an ad that sets yourself apart from your competitors.
Here are 5 tips that might help you get started on marketing effectively and getting the attention that you deserve, Read the rest of this entry

I am not sure how many of you actually seen the new Motrin ad that was released over the weekend. I wanted to talk about it a little here because it is relevant to what we talk about – marketing. Before we get started on it I would like you to first watch the video if you haven’t already,
Did you find anything wrong with that video? Some didn’t and a lot of bloggers and moms did find the ad quite offensive. It was all over the web and bloggers and twitter users ganged up against this ad so bad that Motrin had to eventually take the ad down. I personally didn’t find anything wrong with the ad. Not sure why so many people got so offended. People seem to be too hung up on their own lives and sometimes a little sarcasm and humor tends to go over their head.
Well, the key reason we are talking about this particular ad is because of the exposure it got. Remember one of the key tactics to making anything viral is causing a controversy. Although Motrin’s initial plan might not have been to create controversy, it did. A huge controversy surrounded over this ad and it was one of the most talked about topics on the web, especially on Twitter. Moms ganged up, called mainstream media and well, Motrin ad was everywhere. I call this a success because the ad went viral. People that might not even know about Motrin now know about it. It was one of the most talked about things on the web, come on….everyone was talking about it. Word of mouth (chat,IM,emails, twitter, etc.) about the ad was flowing everywhere. One angry mom telling another angry mom via twitter and the conversation must have gotten carried at the dinner table to talk with their family. The next day husbands probably went to work and talked about the ad to their colleagues and kids to their friends at school. Exposure? Huge. Marketing? Success. Good product? You Bet!
Like I had said in the beginning this probably wasn’t planned by Motrin but it worked out on their behalf. I am sure most people that talked about this ad won’t simply stop consuming their products because of the ad because their product is good and does wonders for moms and women as I have heard. The web was abuzz about the Motrin ad and controversy was everywhere. Finally, after so much chaos and controversy surrounding it Motrin decided to take the ad down. Yes, they did take it down. Would I have taken the ad down? I wouldn’t have and if I did I would let it sit for a couple more days, at least a week to draw more exposure to the product. Here is the apology letter that was posted on their site,
What do you think happened once they posted the apology letter? More and more people started talking about it. All the bloggers and moms who ganged up against it started telling everyone how they had suceeded. It was talked once again on the web and I am sure it got carried onto the real world. I sure did talk about with my family and I bet they went and talked about it to their friends at work and school. So three things happened :
Controversy : Got Motrin a huge exposure and became one of the most talked about topic on the web
Apology : Everyone that ganged up against it talked about how they got them to remove the ad. More exposure
Reputation : Although some might think that Motrin is now doomed, it isn’t. Due to their apology letter now they are looked upon as a company that really cares what their customers think.
The essence of this article : Buzz marketing never fails. It captures your attention and makes you talk. When you can get million dollar advertising for chump change, that is what is called “smart marketing.”
Whether or not this whole thing was planned by Motrin (I doubt they had it planned) this was one of the best marketing campaign I have personally seen in quite a while.
Imagine this…you are in the bathroom, about to finish up your business, look over to the roll of toilet paper to find three dangling sheets staring you in the face. You think to yourself, “Oh Shit…WTF am I going to do?” Amid your little “moment” you use your head and resources available and find a way to get out of the “crappy situation” (pun intended)…and manage to come out smelling like a rose.
While this experience is one that we would rather not think about, it is however an experience that we all as entrepreneurs can relate to at some point along our entrepreneurial journey…Not to mention when we think about our current and future marketing plans for our business.
I was introduced to the book through a friend a couple days ago, and after investigating their marketing I simply couldn’t ignore how they rolled this book out. The message/content and way they went about the full rollout was TOP NOTCH.
Not only are they building an amazing brand, but further, they are killing it in the social media space, getting attention from big media outlets, and have built a volunteer sales force that is costing them nothing to market their book for them…and yes they have done this all in about 4 months.
In this post I would like to examine what they have done to create such a successful launch, by highlighting some of the innovative marketing things they are doing, so you can duplicate some of these elements to help you market your own products.Read the rest of this entry
Sorry for the title if it comes across rude or problematic in anyway but at this point I really care less. You know what they say – you can hold the water behind a dam for only so long and when it breaks, the water is going to come out full force wrecking everything on its path. Well, I certainly don’t have the power or the force but I do have some words that StumbleUpon admins need to hear and apply to their bullshit model and copycat attitude.
I have included the letter in this article that I sent to StumbleUpon using their contact form. I know I have wasted my time writing the letter cause as usual its probably dumped into their trash and marked as “Another banned user, LOL.”
Anyway, this is why I am so outraged. Well, first things first my StumbleUpon account has been under review for over a week. I am not pissed off at that because I might have done something that might be against their TOS, I wouldn’t know cause I haven’t heard from them. Did I promote my own sites on StumbleUpon? You bet I did, don’t you? Of course you do.
I have never used StumbleUpon to solely promote my sites. I spend a good two hours each day stumbling naturally using their toolbar and reviewing contents and participating. I am an active member within the community. I like their service. I use it to bookmark sites, images, articles that I like and at times there might be a few articles that I might “thumb up” or “discover” from the same site, not cause I am promoting it because I would like it to be seen by my friends on StumbleUpon who follow me and for bookmarking purpose. StumbleUpon team doesn’t seem to understand that I guess. Anyway, my anger isn’t about me getting banned. its about not getting a response after sending countless emails. I have talked to a few other users who are banned as well and they are going through the same ordeal. No reply what so ever.
StumbleUpon team, it can’t be that hard to lift up a finger and sent a reply and tell me “Hey, you are banned for doing so and so and you are banned permanently.” It’s your freaking site, it’s your genius idea (its damn good) but you do have a certain liability towards your userbase and replying to issues and concerns they might have should be a priority. You have failed and you can keep my account. Pimp it, junk it, kill it….it’s yours to keep. You have a great service but you have failed to keep your users happy. And like any other users I am not going to create another account. If you don’t have enough respect for me as a user who appreciates your site and service you sure as hell do not deserve the time out of my day. Have a good one and kiss my ass!
Facebook is an amazing place for Internet marketers to advertise their wares for many reasons – but the most important is demographics. You can totally pinpoint your target market because, by default, Facebook gathers all kinds of data that you can’t get in any other pay per click outlet!
This includes things like age, schooling, hobbies and keywords. When you set up an Adwords campaign, you are just stuck with keyword targeting and picking out sites you want to advertise on!
This podcast shows you how to set up Facebook Sponsored Ads from beginning to end. If nothing else, try them out and see what you think!
