Before I go ahead and start out I would like to make one thing clear, social media isn’t just digg, reddit, StumbleUpon and other popular sites. Social Media seems to be taken by most people in a very narrow sense which keeps them away from tapping other markets. Blogs are a form of social media as it gives you a platform to market and share experiences with your customers and vice versa. Amazon’s review of products by consumers on their site helps other customers analyze if a product is good or not is an example of social media. Anything that allows interaction among two or more people to share and express opinion is in one way or the other a form of social media. Forums, Niche communities are all examples of social media which marketers have yet to try. Not just content marketers but product marketers as well.
For example : You work as an online marketer for a company that manufactures three wheelers for kids. You login to your Amazon account and you start searching for three wheelers to see what your competitors have got listed on Amazon. You see some that look very good. The main benefit here is you get to see reaction from people who have actually bought your competitors products. Did they like it? If they did, what was that thing that made your competitors product so popular? If they didn’t like it, that might be one way to make your product better than you competitors. The key is to analyze. Also through these review you can promote your own product. You do it as a representative of the company you are working for or act as a consumer yourself and promote your comany’s product is upto you. Personally, I would act as a customer leaving reviews and suggest the product.
Anyways, just wanted to quick give you plug on how social media marketing works. Ohh trust me this is just the beginning. I will be brining a lot more. Just keep in mind that Social Media marketing isnt about getting your content hot on stumbleupon or promoting on Facebook and MySpace alone. There is way, way more than that to social media marketing and we will have it all covered right here on MarketingHackz.
