How To Use Zimbio For Marketing

Zimbio is an interesting website. With all it’s content and nuances, sometimes it’s hard to get to know your way around.  But did you know that it’s an AWESOME Internet marketing tool?!

When I first came across Zimbio, I didn’t think much of it.  It looked like so many of the other “spam your blog” or “citizen (playing) journalist” websites out there — didn’t really take a second look.

That is, until last week.  I’ve taken the chance to dive into Zimbio, and now I’m hooked.

How To Use Zimbio For Marketing

Zimbio draws its strengths from many different marketing disciplines and combines it to form a smooth traffic and link generating machine if used properly.  That’s the key – it MUST be used properly to have a strong effect.

Here’s how Zimbio works.

  1. You sign up at the site, fill out a profile, set the feeds up to your blog(s), and you’re ready to rock and roll.
  2. Zimbio pings your feed and pulls the stories in from it.
  3. From there, you can post the stories to wikizines that act in the same basic way as a category on a blog, but with other benefits (including a sharp interface).

The sheer volume of the site is a strong benefit from the perspective of indexing.  Google seems to love it, which is not indicative of other duplicate content sites.  Their folder structure is basic but strong and allows for deep indexing of pages.  The multiple points where a story can be found also aids in getting it picked up.

The traffic is not tremendous, but it can be made stronger with better stories posted.  Great images, powerful headlines, and interesting opening paragraphs are all a writer needs to start pulling in the site’s well-read traffic.

Key’s To Using Zimbio For Blog Marketing

There are some keys to remember:

  • When possible, use “Read More” links to draw readers and spiders from Zimbio and into your blog.
  • Make sure your post is indexed by Google before you “submit” it to Zimbio.  This is important — Zimbio will automatically post some of your stories that clearly match the theme of a particular wikizine, but most stories must be manually classified and published.  It will show up on your profile from the ping, but the story itself will not move from there unless you post it properly.
  • Zimbio Button vs None: this is a judgment call.  Some will say for SEO reasons not to link back with a My Zimbio badge so that the links coming from the site are not recipricol.  I personally believe that helping to build up the PageRank of your profile is just as important as keeping the links one way.
  • Kudos: this is like a voting mechanism where an author can get kudos from his or her peers.  They can only get one per person, so be selective and find people whose work you admire.  Hopefully, your writing will be equally admirable and you will get more kudos yourself.  These are links, but more importantly, they help your stories to get found on the site.

As long as you cover these issues, Zimbio is a perfect abode for quick marketing as well as some surprisingly excellent content.

Keep in mind, the real use of Zimbio is as an Online Magazine.  There is a lot of entertainment news on it.  They have nice features that go far beyond what is covered in this article.  All we’re worried about here is the marketing.[ad#336x280]
