You should seriously consider forming your own virtual team if you want to experience serious business growth and increased profits. Scaling up your business will have the greatest possibility for success through the skillful management of a virtual team. The intriguing aspect of this method is that it can be used by almost anyone regardless of the age of your business.
Even large corporations started using virtual teams many years after their businesses were global in size.
When you have people working for you remotely, don’t expect things to happen instantly. Obviously, some people will reply faster to you because they are closer while others will not for the opposite reason. If you give someone a deadline of so many hours or days, then just figure in the difference with time so all is fair and reasonable. Being rigid will serve no purpose and will simply make it more difficult for you to manage your team. Remember to build all the necessary differences into all you do such as any scheduling of events, etc. This will allow your team members to go through it in advance and be ready for the call.
You need to give freedom to your team and let it breathe; that’s how you achieve real growth.
If you want your team to perform better and give consistent results, then lead by example. Consider that this is your show, and that means you simply must be able to fulfill your obligations as a leader.
It is your responsibility to make them aware that you are there to lead and take care of things. You must have all the right emotional commitment to your team, etc. Don’t be the evil project manager that tries to get work done without doing anything himself.
Since you must succeed, then you have to prevent any types of group problems from interrupting the flow of work. If there is a problem, then you may eventually discover that it was caused by a lack of communication or poor communications. The faster you make conflicts go away, the better it will be for your team. What that means is the people who work for you must be at a positive place in terms of their willingness to speak up and talk. Even the smallest problems can become larger ones if left unattended. It is true that a virtual team can be a tremendously valuable asset to any business. There are a number of areas that you will have to focus on when you’re managing your virtual team, but one thing that you need to keep improving on is the communication that you share with it. We say this because effective communications is the cornerstone of all human endeavors.
Creating Your Virtual Team
When I started creating my team, this is what I did:
Step 1: Get set up at AskSunday
I originally needed someone to outsource general contact management and email. I found AskSunday to be a great resource, and it’s really set up for someone new to outsourcing and virtual team building.
Step 2: As I was growing, I found Elance and Odesk to be great resouces
Elance and Odesk are great sources for finding talented virtual workers. I personally prefer Elance for content generation like writing articles, reports and stuff like that. I find Odesk very helpful for more technical tasks like building websites and doing coding projects.
Once you find someone you work well with, ask them to come on full-time if you’re at that level! The usually will…
Click here for Elance (writing, content, reports, PDFs, etc)
Click here for Odesk (coding, technical tasks, websites, etc)
And that’s how I built my team![ad#336x280]
