One of the things we do for our members at Traffickd is a monthly webinar where we all sit down and answer questions that are submitted. People can dial in and get into the conversation as well. It ended up being almost three hours long – but I’ll tell you what, we have some really great members!
One of the more discussed questions was this: “What kind of Internet marketing gives you the most targeted traffic?”
Our answer is really pretty simple – it’s either pay per click or blog reviews (if you want to spend money) and search engine optimization (if you don’t).
The drawback for SEO is where a user enters your site. You have no control over it other than optimizing the individual page. Whereas, with a well thought out Pay Per Click campaign, you just direct them to the page you want them to go to! And then make sure your conversion tracking and analytics are installed. You can’t get much targeted than that.
Social media, on the other hand, is the least ‘targeted’ traffic out there. It is very hard to differentiate a demographic (age, salary, ethnicity, college education, etc) while trying to promote on digg or stumble. Facebook is easier but potential traffic is lower.
In Internet marketing, your methods are largely determined by what you are looking to achieve. Just because Facebook promotion is hot now, doesn’t mean it’s right for you or your business. If you need LOTS of traffic – social media optimization is right for you. If you need targeted traffic – check out pay per click programs. Use all the other stuff in between.
